Summer Public Night: a brief history of naming moon craters
August 15 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm EDT

Look up at the Moon on a clear night, and you’ll see its surface is covered in craters. But who gets to name them – and how did that process evolve over centuries? Join us on Saturday, August 15th as Rina Rast takes us through the rich history of lunar crater naming, tracing how this practice has evolved from the first lunar maps to the present day.
The evening kicks off with a talk in the classroom, followed by a tour of the Observatory and hands-on astronomy demos. Skies permitting, our telescopes will be ready for observing – and on a clear night, you might even spot some of those named craters yourself! 🔭
FREE admission, no registration required! Drop by for a unique evening under the stars.
